We are either moving towards the aspiration or away from the pain.

For the majority of people, there is a “gap” or mismatch between their current life circumstances and their needs, desires and interests.

The very presence of this gap serves as a source of deep seated dissatisfaction or even “suffering”. At the same time, it works as an intrinsic motivator behind our goals as, naturally, we want to close the gap.

This is first dimension that drives change

This way our needs define the vector of our goals and the whole dynamic of our lives.

There are goals that are born by dissatisfaction and our basic needs, and there are the goals formed by our social life. The latter guarantees our social fit and “external” social success which covers aspects of health, relationships, status and material wellbeing.

By setting goals in a direction of closing this gap and acquiring best suited strategies we achieve a change in how we experience ourselves and our life.

However, there is another dimension of change.

There are times when a person may feel a lack of inner satisfaction or peace despite how socially successful he or she is, despite how well he or she can achieve their goals. Nothing they achieve or have or who they became seems satisfying.

This is a time when the need for inner success and a need to pursue unknown horizons becomes louder.

It launches the search for new dimensions of happiness, wisdom, inner knowing and ultimately inner freedom. This is an aspiration of the higher spirit – an aspiration for free consciousness, full awareness of self and own experience.

At this stage, change is acquired through the awareness of life scenarios that send us in one direction or another. Awareness is the ability to see these governing patterns and dissociate from them to choose new ones. The Buddhist referred to this process as “naming the demon”. Demon that is named loses half of its power, and the power becomes yours. According to many spiritual studies of the East and the West, the ultimate goal is to enlighten subconsciousness with the light of consciousness whilst maintaining a sharp “social” mind.

We are holistic beings, and a lasting change requires the whole system of body-emotions-thoughts, crowned with the spirit to move to the next level up.

For one who seeks true growth, actualization of both types of success is important.

This is our search for wholeness internally and externally and the sense of inner freedom gained along the way is the ultimate prize as all social goals are temporary.
